My Trisomy-X-syndrome symptoms

  • I always had long legs and arms, often looked pale, and didn't dare do much
  • I was (and often am) taller than average
  • I am often afraid of falling, and if I have to rush, I can easily trip over my own feet; I often suffer from impaired motor skills
  • Sometimes I just stub my foot against the other or my arm shoots out; this happens especially when I am under a lot of stress
  • I am hypersensitive to stressful situations and experience all situations very intensely
  • I am often and quickly tired
  • I am hypersensitive to crowds
  • I cannot think about and oversee many things at the same time
  • It is important for me to take a break often
  • It is important for me to often take the time to organize my thoughts
  • Writing, coloring, doing puzzles, interacting with animals, taking care of plants, or just being outside help with that
  • Until 2015, I was prone to menstrual complaints; after 2015, these complaints were labeled as hormonal complaints (in 2015, I underwent surgery that caused me to stop having periods – Novasure method)
  • I got my first period when I was 13
  • I have often suffered from heavy blood loss and severe pain, including in my joints, among them my lower back
  • Sometimes the only thing that helped was to lie down with a hot water bottle against my stomach, under the covers in my bed
  • I am hypersensitive to allergies
  • I am allergic to, among other things, nuts and peanuts, histamine, latex, penicillin, acidic food and drinks, bitter food and drinks, fruits such as raspberries, cranberries, redcurrants and kiwis, vegetables such as eggplant, strong spices such as chili, ginger and cayenne pepper, and insect stings such as those from wasps
  • My skin reacts hypersensitively to perfume and soap additives such as coco-glucoside, geraniol, and sodium lauryl sulfate
  • I get bumps and itching then
  • After eating or drinking products I am allergic to, or after stings from wasps for example, I can become short of breath, develop red spots or bumps, get itchy eyes and nose, or have to sneeze
  • Sometimes I notice it immediately, sometimes only after some time
  • As soon as I have an allergic reaction, it is helpful to take Loratadine; it works for me within a few minutes
  • Sometimes I take it before I eat or drink something I don't completely trust, or when I'm visiting someone or eating out
  • I take a number of supplements every day as a precaution that are also good for allergic reactions:

    • Boswellia (also good for joint pain)

    • MSM (also good for the joints)

    • Respiratory support from Golden Naturals

    • general vitamins and minerals

  • I am hypersensitive to stomach complaints
  • I get bladder infections easily (after eating or drinking acidic foods or drinks such as cranberries, citrus fruits, sauerkraut, and anything with too much sugar)
  • I easily get intestinal cramps (after bitter or spicy food, such as something with onion, garlic, or red pepper)
  • I drink a lot of (mineral) water and eat neutralizing foods such as iceberg lettuce, cucumber, celery, and blackberries
  • I drink tea with horsetail, juniper, grape leaf, and birch leaf every day
  • I often suffer from painful joints
  • I often suffer from lower back pain
  • The orthopedist found the following in both my knees:

    • cartilage hypersensitivity (also known as patellar chondropathy)

    • fat pad impingement syndrome

    • and in my right knee, a flap tear under my kneecap

    • (the last 2 were likely caused by multiple hard falls on the street)

  • I use braces to support my knees and a special cushion for my back
  • I do exercises every day, such as yoga and Pilates, with a gym ball, weights, and a mat
  • I am prone to anemia
  • I suffer from sudden dizziness (and use a rollator for support)
  • I eat extra apple syrup for iron and take an iron supplement
  • I drink tea with rosehip, among other things, every day for extra iron
  • I eat blueberries and pomegranate seeds every day for extra iron
  • I always had bad teeth; I have many fillings and crowns, and teeth and molars have also been removed
  • I always have to take extra good care of my teeth, and also floss, use interdental brushes, and picks between my teeth
  • I also have very sensitive gums and am prone to inflammation in my teeth and gums
  • Due to my protruding jaw (also characteristic of Triple-X syndrome), I often automatically breathe through my mouth, which allows bacteria to enter more quickly (as my dentist and dental hygienist told me)
  • If I fail to remember to take breaks or distance myself from a situation, I can suddenly:

  • become sad quickly

  • feel angry suddenly and sometimes want to express it

  • feel pain in my body

  • get a headache or stomach ache

  • have trouble sleeping

  • trip over my own feet

  • bump my arms or legs

  • feel suddenly dizzy and sometimes fall

  • sometimes become confused and insecure, and sometimes not dare to do as much anymore

  • It is important for me to get plenty of rest, create distance, and take good care of myself
  • It is also very important to keep moving, to do exercises to stay flexible and also to make my legs and arms stronger
  • I find peace in music, coloring, puzzles, reading, writing, spending time with animals, and taking care of plants
